With a seven-wicket victory in Karachi, South Africa comfortably concluded their comprehensive thrashing of an out-of-sorts England and advanced to the semifinals in style. By the halfway point, they had secured their spot in the top four by bundling England for just 179 runs.

Heinrich Klaasen scored his fifth consecutive half-century in the format upon his seamless return to the team after missing the tournament's opening match due to injury. Rassie van der Dussen also scored a fifty, and he and Klaasen added 127 runs for the third wicket before the game was over in the 30th over.

The England bowlers started slightly better than their batters as Jofra Archer struck twice in the PowerPlay.  In his first appearance as an opening batsman in professional cricket, Tristan Stubbs played a ball into his stumps in the third over, resulting in a five-ball duck.

Saqib Mahmood then offered Ryan Rickleton a reprieve but Archer ensured that didn't matter as he knocked back the stumps of the other opener in the ninth over.  But England struggled to break through any further as van der Dussen and Klaasen put their side comfortably on course to surmount the small target ahead of them.
